What is it about?

This event is designed just for the AmbITion Scotland partners and associates and the organizations that they work most closely with. The idea is that there is a lot of synergy across the range of projects that different AmbITion Scotland participants are undertaking. The team at AmbITion Scotland want to provide a forum for you to learn about each other’s work so that you can learn from each other and with each other. There are real opportunities for potential collaboration. We want to give you every chance to make that happen.

The day will be divided into two halves. The morning session will be focused on supporting the partners in the implementation of their business cases. The afternoon session will bring in the AmbITion Scotland associates and allow the large group to work together in support of these goals.

Other invitees include Creative Scotland officers from a range of art forms, representatives from the Scottish Centre for Enabling Technology and the pool of AmbITion Scotland Specialist Advisors.

About the facilitator Ben Young – in his own words

I am the former national coordinator of Jubilee Scotland, in which capacity I facilitated participatory events for groups from all over the world. I was the lead participation adviser for Ken Yersel, which combined facilitated discussion sessions with argument mapping software with the intention of revolutionizing public and political life (we didn't quite succeed - sorry about that). I was a tutor at the Adult Learning Project, where I helped create a popular philosophy course called Think Fur Yersel; and in 2001 I worked for the Scottish Civic Forum, where I wrote a report on the state of participatory democracy in Scotland's then-new parliament, and facilitated dialogues between politicians and community groups. I also tutored philosophy at Edinburgh and Stirling universities.

I'm currently a freelance researcher and editor based in York, England [see Babel Editing | About Me], and run philosophy sessions in youth clubs and an old people's home as part of a project begun by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (called Philosophy For You).
